David “Bumpy” H. Hughes

President of Hughes, Inc. and DH Family Holdings

David was born in Orlando and is the son of Harry and Pauline.

He took Hughes Supply public in 1970 and was elected President in 1972. Under his leadership, along with other lifetime associates, the business grew to be the leading distributor of plumbing, electrical, and industrial supplies in the southeast, with 500 locations in 40 states and almost 10,000 employees. The company was sold to Home Depot in 2006. During his 50 years at Hughes Supply, David served as President, Chairman, and CEO.

Highly involved in national, state, and community activities, David was a member of the Florida Bar and the Council of 100. He is past Chairman of the Orlando Regional Healthcare System and the Economic Development Commission of Mid-Florida; past President of Central Florida Builders Exchange; Founder/Director of Central Florida Research Park; Founder of Florida Citrus Open Golf Tournament (now known as Bay Hill Classic) and Chairman of the Board of Overseers for the Roy E. Crummer Graduate School of Business. He was on the Board of Directors for SunTrust Banks, Florida Tax Watch, University of Florida Gator Booster, Brown & Brown Insurance, Accord Industries, Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital, Trinity Preparatory School, Darden Restaurants, and was Vice Chairman of the Capital Campaign benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of Central Florida.

David attended Edgewater High School in Orlando. He graduated from the University of Florida with degrees in Business Administration and Juris Doctor. He loves supporting the Gators, playing golf, fly fishing, flying airplanes and spending time with his wife, Linda, his three children, and seven grandchildren.
